Title :- Curse of the Voodoo Drums 2

Artist :- Detboi

Label :- Cheap Thrills

Genre :- Bass / Dubstep / Fidget / House

Release Date :- 2nd October 2011

Cheap Thrills has been a major busy label of late and this week saw the release of Detboi’s 2nd Album and also the first single from the album with accompanying remix package, which we have reviewed previously on this site.

Detboi truly showcases his immense production talents with 9 tracks spanning a multitude of genres and styles, ranging from the deep jacking tech house grooves of ‘Partys Zipped Up’ to jazzy funky disco vibes of ‘Freaky Nights’ and touching bass on everything in between.

Its hard to pick a favourite track from this album but I think it would be between ‘OG Killa’ and ‘Pick It Up’, ‘OG Killa’ sounds a bit like a modern day remake of ‘flat beat’, with plenty more fx and tricks thrown in and ‘Pick It Up’ is a vocal led 2 step garagey affair with an energetic bouncy acid bassline!

Another track that deserves a noticeable menton is ‘Turn A Glock’, this is a quaity journey that bounces around genres in an roller coaster  4 minutes, jumping from old skool garage drums to subby breakdowns.

There’s something on this album for everyone and is truly a diverse reflection on all things bass through the eyes of Detboi!

Rating – 8/10

Title :- 1) Iron Man 2) Party Starter

Artist :- Giant

Label :- Hench

Genre :- Dubstep

Release Date :- 26th September 2011

Jakes legendary label Hench presents another release for Russian dubstep dons, Giant with huge tracks such as Drumstick, Rocker and a party destroying bootleg of Money For Nothing by Dire Straits, they are no newcomers to the scene.
‘Iron Man’ kicks off the release and is industrial wobbly bass at its best, throwing the listen all over the place and a cool arcadey old skool breakbeat style breakdown takes you by surprise before it throws you back into the bass. Guaranteed to test out any soundsystem to the limit, the track has plenty of character with the melodic riff that accompanies the wobbles. Another example of how you don’t need to go mad with the wobbles and extreme compression but still remain effective.
Party Starter – Instantly recognisable vocal. Another bassbin wobbler, guaranteed to get any party started.
Hench are seriously leading the way if this more aggressive quality side of dubstep you are looking for.
